which identify the top level domain (i.e. .com).
How long does it usually take to process
my domain name registration?
With Xenoplanet / Domain Discover new domain registrations are processed
in realtime and are normally active in less than 24 hours.
Who owns the domain name when I register
through Xenoplanet / Domain Discover?
You do. When Xenoplanet / Domain Discover registers your domain name,
we list you as the "administrative contact", "Billing Contact" and the
"Registrant". The Registrant is the person or organization which "owns"
the domain.
How long does it take the world to
see my new "yourdomain.com" domain name?
About 90% of the Internet will be able to see your domain name within
24 hours of registration. The domain name will "trickle down" to the
rest of the world within a week. The actual times vary with the overall
loads of the internet, DNS caching (enabled by some administrators around
the world), and other variables.
How long does it take the world to
see my new "yourname.xenoplanet.com" domain name?
99% of the Internet should see your domain within an hour.
Can I have a web alias for a subdomain
(subweb)?
Yes, you can assign more than one domain name to point to a subdomain.
Keep in mind that it will still incur InterNIC fees.
I just finished setting up my
account, but I'm unable to access my site using the domain name.
There are several reasons which may apply:
- Your account setup has not yet completed
(this normally takes about 5 minutes)
- Your domain has not yet been registered
or transferred (InterNIC can take up to 48 hours to register a domain,
or 5 days to transfer. Contact Xenoplanet for an update on your
domain registration or transfer). If your domain is registered through
Xenoplanet / Domain Discover changes should take less than 24 hours
from the time you make the update.
- Your transferred domain has not propagated
to the world's nameservers (this can take an additional 24-48 hours
from the time that your domain transfer has been processed.
- You have transferred your domain from
your current ISP, and your ISP has not properly removed your domain
from their DNS.
How do I transfer my domain seamlessly
(without my visitors noticing)?
Please follow the following steps in order to insure a seamless
transfer:
- Sign up for an account at Xenoplanet,
making sure to select "existing domain".
- Using your newly issued Xenoplanet IP
address, upload your site.
- Acknowledge the transfer request which
you should receive from InterNIC within 48 hours of signup.
- Assuming you send your acknowledgement,
your domain will automatically transfer to Xenoplanet, usually within
48-72 hours.
- Cancel your account at your previous
provider.
I am unable to acknowledge the
domain transfer request, but I am the owner of the domain. How do I
transfer my domain to Xenoplanet?
If you do not have the cooperation of the domain's current administrative
contact, are not sure if your contact information currently listed with
InterNIC is correct, or are unable to acknowledge the domain transfer,
please contact support@xenoplanet.com.

What are web aliases and subdomains
(subwebs)?
Web aliases are additional domain names that are hosted on a current
account and point to the root directory of the account. Essentially
it points another domain name to the IP address of the original domain
name of the account. This feature costs a one-time $10 setup fee and
can be done by emailing support@xenoplanet.com and requesting
it.
Subdomains, or subwebs, are additional domain names that are hosted
on a current account and point to a separate directory of the account.
Essentially it assigns an IP address to a directory of the main account
and then points that domain name to the IP address. So, this basically
creates another webpage out of a directory of an existing page. People
browsing the site will not know that it is a subweb. This option is
once again available by request through email and is offered for a one-time
setup fee of $10 and an additional $5/month charge.
For additional info on subwebs, visit this page
It is important to keep in mind that both subdomains and web aliases
may incur Domain Registration fees if using a separate domain name.
Do subdomains have their own options,
features, and email accounts? Can subdomains use freeCGI or CGI?
Subdomains (subwebs) on a subdirectory have their own IP address, and
they are aliased to the directory using the IP. Subdomains/subwebs may
have their own email accounts. Some of the bundled CGI utilities will
work with these, but some do not work or don't work as expected. The
subdirectory aliases are intended for minimal hosting needs when a full
web account is not needed thus sparing the added expense.
Do I have to register the a new
domain name if I want to have a subdomain (subweb) or web alias?
In most cases the answer is yes. If you want to use a separate, independent
domain name then it will need to be registered and fees will apply for
domain registration.
If you wanted to use a dependent domain name for a subweb or web alias,
that will not incur InterNIC fees and does not need to be registered.
For instance, if your domain is abc.com
and you wanted to have xyz.abc.com point
to the /xyz directory of abc.com,
that would not need to be registered with InterNIC. However, if you
wanted xyz.com to point to the /xyz
directory of abc.com, then xyz.com
must be registered.
Do you offer http redirects? What
are they?
Yes, we offer http redirects. These essentially redirect a domain name
to a separate directory of an existing account much like a subdomain
(subweb). The difference between the two is that subwebs retain the
second domain name in the browser, while http redirects display the
new URL for the actual page being viewed.
For instance, if xyz.com is being redirected
to abc.com/xyz, once the redirect takes
place the browser location will show abc.com/xyz
and NOT xyz.com, as a subweb would.
Another difference is that, unlike subdomains, http redirects can utilize
most FreeCGI and CGI.
