What is SSL?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), also know as secure server, provides for
the encrypted transmission of data across the Internet.
How strong is the encryption/how safe is SSL?
Xenoplanet secure servers features 128-bit encryption (the current maximum),
however the actual level of encryption is completely dependent on the
level of support built into your visitors' web browsers. The U.S. government
has many restrictions on the distribution of web browsers which have
greater than 40-bit encryption.
What's the difference between "www.keysecure.com"
and "www.yourdomain.com"?
For customers working with a limited budget, "https://www.keysecure.com/yourdomain.com/"
hosting provides all the benefits of a secure server, without the added
expense of a secure key. This SSL account-type is compatible with the
storefront system as well as other secure options, and it involves no
setup fees.
For customers striving for a professional image, "https://www.yourdomain.com/"
hosting involves a $25/key set fee, plus a $345 Versign key (for one
year of secure server), or $125 for Thawte. This SSL account-type is
also compatible with the storefront system as well as other secure options.
Does Xenoplanet offer a shopping cart?
Xenoplanet offers a "storefront" system which includes a shopping cart.
More information is available from our E-Commerce page.
What do I need to do to accept credit card payments?
Contact your local bank. You will need a merchant processing account.
The application process for a merchant processing account is normally
straightforward.
Xenoplanet provides the ability to collect and transmit credit card
information securely, and to perform rudimentary checks on the credit
card number. It does not provide the ability to actually charge the
card or obtain money.
Once you obtain an order, it will be your responsibility to charge the
credit card using your merchant processing account. Xenoplanet makes
no guarantees as to the accuracy of its credit card verification system.
Do I need a business license?
This is completely dependent upon your location. Contact your city or
county government for information on business licenses.
What are Thawte tickets and does Xenoplanet support
them?
Thawte tickets/certificates are simply a cheaper alternative to the
Verisign Key. Yes, we do support Thawte certificates, but keep in mind
they do not work with older web browsers. Only Netscape 3 and 4 and
Internet Explorer 4 have built-in support for Thawte. Internet Explorer
3.0 users can upgrade their browsers to support Thawte certificates
but this support does not come standard. If you would like to apply
for a secure key send the following information to Xenoplanet Support:
- Legal name of your organization:
- Organization unit:
- Domain name:
- City:
- State:
- Zip:
- Country:
- Certificate Authority (Verisign or Thawte):
